There are a few things that you can do to assist your child in achieving scores of 80% or more. They are:

  1. Have the student complete each PACE within three weeks. Longer time may cause the student to forget a concept. Set goals of 3 to 5 pages a day in each subject for grades one through eight; and five to eight pages a day for grades 9 to 12.

  2. Require student to read aloud the "Objectives" and "Words to Know" (or "Vocabulary") to you.

  3. Require student to memorize definitions of vocabulary words, and math and science formulas before taking the mastery test.

  4. Have the student read the text for the day before completing the activities. Then go back and read the text again and answer the questions. If the student reads only enough text to find the answer, his ability to do his best will be hindered.

  5. Review his work before giving the mastery test to be certain there are no weak areas of understanding. Numerous errors would indicate a "trouble" spot.

  6. Be sure the child has at least 90% on each "Let’s Review", "Checkup", and "Self Test" before he proceeds to the next section of material.

  7. Make sure all answers have been corrected by the student. If not, he may study incorrect answers in preparation for the PACE Test.

  8. Quiz the student over the content of the "Let’s Review", "Checkup", and "Self Test" pages to be sure of mastery of concepts.

  9. Preview the mastery test to make certain that the student has mastered the concepts to be tested.

Try not to schedule more than two PACE TESTS on the same day. It is best to schedule difficult tests on separate days.
