Guidelines For Correction

1. Before correcting the child, evaluate your motives for correction considering the three basic objectives that you want to develop in the child.

A. Obedience
B. Respect
C. Responsibility

2. Don't correct the child in front of others.

3. Establish the responsibility for the offense.

4. Visualize the ultimate benefits of correction.

5. Communicate sincere grief for the offense.

6. Use the least amount of correction needed to break the child's will.

7. Comfort the child after correction.

8. Assist in further restitution if necessary.

9. Evaluate your attitude and the child's response after correction.

10. A person relates to life on the basis of two motivations:

  • What will I gain?

  • What will I lose?
